Unit 11: urinary system
in this system we will examine what organs comprise the urinary system and what function those organs play in the formation and excretion of urine. we will conclude the unit with a brief study of the pathology that is associated with the urinary system.
North Carolina Standard Course of Study
Goal 16: To understand the structure, function and pathology of the urinary system.
16.1 The student will be able to list the major functions of the urinary system.
16.2 The student will be able to identify through diagram, dissection or model, the major organs of the urinary system.
16.3 The student will be able to label a nephron and describe how it functions.
16.4 The student will demonstrate an understanding of the cellular and physiological aspects of the urinary system including the forces and processes that result in blood filtration.
16.5 The student will be able to describe the regulation of the urinary system and the influence of the urinary system on blood volume and pressure.
16.6 The student will show an understanding of the effects of hereditary and environmental factors, as well as, aging on the urinary system.
16.7 The student will be able to identify the causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of major diseases of the urinary system.
